Orders, Deposits & Cancellation

Effective 21 September 2026

How ordering works, what your deposit covers, and what happens if plans change. For what handmade solid wood looks like up close, see our Cosmetic Standard.

Placing an order

We start your order when you approve a written quote and pay your deposit. Your place in the build schedule is set by the date we receive the deposit.

Quotes

A written quote is good through the end of the calendar month it is issued in. After that, lumber prices have moved and we will give you a fresh number.

Deposit and payment

A 50% deposit — calculated on the order total before tax and before delivery — is due at order. The balance is due before delivery or pickup.

Your deposit is not a holding fee. It pays for lumber, hardware and shop time we commit to your piece right away.

Cancellation

Within 24 hours of placing your order: full refund, no questions.

After 24 hours: your deposit is non-refundable. By then we have begun committing material, shop time and schedule to a piece built to your specifications that we cannot sell to anyone else. If you cancel after that point you forfeit the deposit and owe nothing further.

We would rather talk it through than take your deposit. If something has changed, call us.

Changing your order

Tell us as soon as you can. Changes to size, species, base or finish are accommodated where the build allows, and may change your price and your lead time. Once we have cut material for your piece, a change may require new material at your cost. We will confirm every change in writing before we act on it.

Lead times

Lead times are estimates, not guarantees. We will give you our best honest estimate and keep you posted. Wood, weather and finishing do not run on a schedule.

If your furniture is ready and you are not

We will hold your finished furniture free for 30 days after we tell you it is ready. After that, storage is $20 per day, payable before delivery. We can hold furniture for a maximum of six months.

Custom stain matching

Our twelve stains are the colours our chairs are finished in, so a table and its chairs always match. That is the whole reason we chose them.

If you want something else, we can almost always match it — from a sample, a paint chip, or a photograph of the floor or cabinets you are matching to.

Custom matching is $150, plus $50 per chair. Bring it up before you order and we will price it into your quote.

An unstained top is always available at no charge — choose Natural / No Stain.

Custom furniture cannot be returned

Because every piece is built to your specifications, we cannot accept returns or exchanges. If something is wrong with what we built, that is a warranty matter — see our Warranty page, and call us.
